United Arab Emirates (UAE, has contributed 15 tons of essential medical supplies to the Government of Sierra Leone in order to assist victims of the 5th November fire accident in Wellington,  at the east end of the country’s capital Freetown.

UAE authorities stated in an official correspondence sent to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Abu Dhabi that they were sending a loaded Emirati Aid Plane to Sierra Leone containing tons of medical aid items to lessen the repercussions of the human catastrophe caused by the tanker explosion in Freetown.

In his reply, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay, who has worked diligently to develop relations between the two nations, commended the UAE Government for such a generous gift, especially at this time of need. He praised the UAE for its unwavering support for Sierra Leone. Among the numerous medical supplies were wound dressings, burn gels, needles, paraffin gauze, dextrose, and ringer lactate. The donated supplies were scheduled to arrive in Sierra Leone today morning by a special Etihad Cargo aircraft from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

It should be mentioned that the connection between Sierra Leone and the UAE has become stronger during President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership. At the commencement of the COVID-19 epidemic, the UAE was also one of the first nations to contribute medical supplies to Sierra Leone.
