NEC Cancels Ward 091 elections result

The National Electoral Commission has overturned the results of the ward 091 elections.

According to a press release dated 15 November 2021 and signed by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh, the Local Council by-election in Ward 091 on Saturday, 13 November, the counting process after the close of polls was disrupted as violence erupted at the UMC Primary School, Yayah, Polling Centre, with Centre Code 0313.

However, the election results for fifteen (15) polling stations were tallied in the District Office at 8 Gandi Fania Street in Koidu City the next Sunday, 14 November 2021.

The statement further states, the margin of the provisional result that was tallied in favour of the two leading candidates was Two Hundred and Seventy-Two (272), which is fewer than the number of votes on the Register of Voters for the affected centre, which is Five Hundred and Ninety-Four (594).

In light of the incident of violence that occurred at Yayah Polling Centre, and in response to a complaint from the Independent Candidate, the National Returning Officer has postponed the results of Ward 091 until further investigation into the problems highlighted is completed.
