WIMSAL condemns cyber-bullying of female journalist

Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) have expressed displeasure over a video on social media platforms in which Asmaa James, the former President of the association, and station manager of 98.1 FM, was verbally assaulted and threatened by artist Alhaji Amadu Bah aka “LAJ”

A press statement by the female journalist association stated that the rapper’s outbursts came after radio Democracy 98.1 aired a news story involving the artist Alhaji Amadu Bah.

The statement emphasized that reporting is a professional responsibility of every media institution, and that was exactly what 98.1 FM was doing when they reported a court proceeding that sparked the rapper’s outburst.

“As an organization that seeks the welfare of all female journalists in Sierra Leone, we view this intimidation as an attempt to silence female journalists and further discourage women from entering into public life.”

The press statement vehemently condemn LAJ’s attack and appealed to the general public to desist from sharing the said video.

Meanwhile, the association is also calling on the relevant authorities to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and as ascribed in the Cybercrime Act.

WIMSAL calls for canceling of LAJ by giving the rapper’s content an absolute media blackout.
