Entertainment Industry accuses Police violation of detained rapper’s Human Rights

In an open letter, the Sierra Leone entertainment sector decried the detention of popular artist Alhaji Amadu Bah, commonly known as LAJ.

According to the letter, LAJ was seized in his car with other friends in Freetown’s East End and taken to the OSD headquarters in Brookfields, better known as Benghazi.

The letter also stated that a few other musicians who went to see LAJ while he was in police custody were detained and then released, but his father and lawyer were denied access to him.

According to the statement, proof of colleague entertainers’ hair being shaved is visible, suggesting a violation of their human rights.

“We as entertainers have been waiting to hear what they have been charged with as we have been in touch with their family lawyers we are yet to hear anything”.

The statement ended by saying they believe in the SLP being a force for good as a partner in development, as the constitution states every citizen is innocent until proven guilty in a competent court of law.

The Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has also expressed severe concern over claims of torture and inhumane treatment of popular rapper Alhaji Amadu Bah aka Boss LA, which they claim is a flagrant breach of Section 20(1) of Sierra Leone’s 1991 Act No. 6 of 1991.

The SLBA expressed this worry in a news release made today, Sunday, June 19, 2022.

“The Sierra Leone Bar Association (hereafter referred to as “the SLBA”) has closely followed the events surrounding the arrest of Alhaji Amadu Bah (alias LAJ) and his subsequent detention on June 12th, 2022,” the SLBA declared.

“We are deeply concerned by the claims of torture and humiliating treatment of Alhaji Amadu Bah, as well as the reluctance to allow his family to visit him.”
