The resumption of water supply has been met with widespread satisfaction among the residents of Makeni, highlighting the importance of reliable access to clean water
Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has successfully restored water supply in Makeni, a key city in Northern Sierra Leone, following a significant disruption and water shortage that left the township without water for several days, due to a technical breakdown at the Wusum Treatment Plant, a critical facility in SALWACO’s operations.
In response to the crisis, SALWACO’s Managing Director, Ing. George Lamin Vandi and Deputy Managing Director, Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey, quickly mobilised a team of top engineers and management staff to address the issue.
The emergency team, which included SALWACO’s Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, Maintenance Manager, Ing. Abu Kallon, who also serves as Acting Head of Maintenance, and the Makeni Station Manager, Ing. Emmanuel Bayoh, worked tirelessly to implement an emergency water resuscitation plan. Their efforts culminated in the swift restoration of water services, much to the relief of the residents.
The resumption of water supply has been met with widespread satisfaction among the residents of Makeni, highlighting the importance of reliable access to clean water. SALWACO has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe drinking water across all its operational areas outside of Freetown.
The company also emphasised the importance of customer cooperation in maintaining this essential service, urging residents to promptly pay their water rates to ensure continued access to clean water and to support SALWACO’s broader goals of sustainable development and operational efficiency.
