Bala Amarasekaran, the founder of Tacugama Sanctuary, has dedicated 30 years of his life to rescuing and protecting chimpanzees.

Sierra Leone is home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in West Africa, yet the species remains critically endangered. As the head of the Tacugama Sanctuary, Bala Amarasekaran rescues chimpanzees, provides conservation education, and runs ecotourism excursions.
